Periodical Index - Snakes of the Elapidae family

A guide to elapid snake articles appearing in herpetogical periodicals over the past few years


Elapid snakes include cobras, kraits, mambas, Australia's venomous snakes including the taipan, and coral snakes. Sea snakes are now normally included in this family, although formerly considered to be a separate family, Hydrophiidae. No European snakes fall into either family. For articles on vipers, adders and rattlesnakes, go to the relevant page.

It should be emphasised that most of the articles listed below are on the natural history of the animals, not their captive care, although some do cover responsible keeping of some species. Keeping venomous snakes carries risks somewhat akin to owning certain types of dog and in addition usually requires a special licence or authorisation from the law.
