Introduction

A monotypic genus restricted to north-east Africa.

The only indotyphlids with eyes and tentacular grooves not covered by bone, tentacular apertures not adjacent to or above the level of the eyes, and olfactory chambers lacking bony eminentia olfactoria. .

Found within or near the edge of broadleaf forest. Diet of termites and earthworms. Description: 84-95 primary rings, 69-72 secondary rings. Coloration: purplish-brown, paler and pinkish below; dark eyes visible in pale patch; skin glands appear as tiny pale dots. Reproduction: the species breeds at small streams and springs: larvae are aquatic. See Spawls et al for further details.
